AEC AV series liquid ring vacuum compressors and liquid ring vacuum pumps are types of rotary machines wherein a system is designed for the liquid to work as piston. A well-designed cylindrical rotor equipped with hollow hub and a sequence of curved blades projecting radially, rotates without any obstruction in a cylindrical housing which is greater in diameter to that of the rotor. The rotor blades are covered at the sides therefore, making a series of buckets that opens at the bottom into the hollow center.
While in operation, the casing houses adequate amount of liquid, generally water, that is when taken around the outer edge of the casing by the rotor blades, makes a solid ring of liquid within the casing because of the centrifugal force. Since the rotor is small in diameter than the casing and revolves on a center flaky to that of the casing, the buckets of rotor will be partly empty.
The liquid alternatively flowing into and moving out of the rotor buckets at fast speed forms a series of liquid piston that experience upsurge in quick succession in and out of the rotor buckets. Air passes via the the inlet ports of the cone located at the spot where the liquid gushes form the rotor (A) and into the casing. Vent outlets are located in the rotating cycle where the liquid again reverses into the rotor buckets, allowing the compression and discharge of air. This effect is constant and is performed several times in a minute, generating obstruction free air flow without vibration /pulsation.
When the inlet is joined to enclosed system and the outlet to atmosphere the equipment draws air and gases from the system discharge into the surrounding environment and will perform as Vacuum Pump. When the inlet is attached to the atmosphere and the outlet to a close system the equipment draws air from the atmosphere and dispels into the system and will work as compressor.
